Food Pantry Assistant

Pay: $17.50 - $19.00 an hour

Part-Time, Day Shift, 25 hours per week

Overview:

The Food Pantry Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the Stepping Stones food pantry, ensuring that community members have access to essential food resources. This position involves working closely with volunteers, managing inventory, and assisting in the overall administration of the pantry. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and organizational skills, along with a passion for serving the community.

Responsibilities:

· Assist in the daily operations of the food pantry, including light warehouse work, inventory management and distribution of food items.

· Supervise and coordinate volunteers to ensure efficient workflow and a positive experience for all participants.

· Lead pantry set-up, distribution and clean-up efforts, providing more than 50,000 pounds of food to the community each month

· Adhere to food safety standards and provide a clean, stocked and well-maintained pantry for community members.

· Contribute to the culture of the organization, maintaining a positive and welcoming environment for clients, volunteers and other staff

· Learn, utilize and train volunteers on Food Pantry Software, used to register clients for pantry use

· Attend relevant trainings and meetings document food distribution statistics and assist with data entry

· Assist with and attend organizational fund-raisers and events

· Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:

· Previous experience in a warehouse/grocery-store or social-service/non-profit setting preferred

· Proficient in Microsoft Office computer programs and able to learn and use basic database software

· Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills

· Self-motivated and able to work independently

· Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail

· Ability to work with diverse populations and people in crisis — and to maintain strict confidentiality

· Integrity and positivity as core character traits

· Must enjoy doing meaningful work with good people

· Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive larger (non-CDL) vehicles

· Ability to regularly lift up-to 30lbs and occasionally lift up-to 50lbs

Accountability:

· Reports directly to Food Pantry Manager

· Works with other staff, volunteers, clients, area agencies, churches and other community partners in fulfilling the organization’s mission

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.50 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 per week
